Ubisoft has dished-out details of the PS3 exclusive beta for Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood...

Ubisoft has released details of the Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood beta that its launching exclusively on PS3 next month.

The beta, which is set to launch in the US next week and Europe on October 4th, will bring with it nine playable characters, two maps, and two separate modes that can be played by up to 8 players simultaneously.

Ubisoft has sent us over artwork and character bios of four characters from the playable nine, which you can see here. Each of these deadly assassins will come complete with their own specific weapons and signature moves.

The two modes on offer will be 'Wanted' and 'Alliance'. 'Wanted' will challenge gamers to assassinate designated targets while avoiding assassination themselves (more details can be found in our multiplayer preview), while 'Alliance' offers similar gameplay but in teams of two. Rome and Castel Gandolfo are the two set maps for the beta.

Lots of people appear to be experiencing a problem with the latest patch in that it bricks the multiplayer. Users have been commenting about it on the Ubisoft boards and the publisher has asked for patience while it develops a fix...

My guess is a sequel to the PSP game in 2011, then the final PS3/Xbox360 game in 2012 (as people keep saying, for obvious reasons).

Based on no evidence though, just a hunch.

The story certainly spins-off from from ACII, but the city of Rome is new and there are a lot of added features in the single-player game that weren't in ACII. It's effectively Assassin's Creed 2.9.
