Ubisoft promises a new game mode and multiplayer map for owners of the game...
Ubisoft has announced that free DLC for Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood will be coming to Xbox Live and PSN on December 14th.
The ‘Animus Project Update 1.0’ will include a new multiplayer map and an additional game mode - Advanced Alliance - which is a more challenging spin on the original Alliance mode. Target identification and engagement will be more difficult in this new mode, which will reward teams that rely on stealth techniques to hunt their prey.
The new map, Mont Saint-Michel is based on a real rocky island town in France. It features “narrow streets, a high-perched bell tower and multi-leveled architecture”, a design which is “perfect for hunters and predators alike to surge from out of nowhere to execute their prey.”
As we noted in our review on TVG, it’s the multiplayer additions in Assasin’s Creed Brotherhood that really mark it out as something special, so it’s encouraging to see Ubisoft extending the experience with this free update.

My guess is a sequel to the PSP game in 2011, then the final PS3/Xbox360 game in 2012 (as people keep saying, for obvious reasons).
Based on no evidence though, just a hunch.

The story certainly spins-off from from ACII, but the city of Rome is new and there are a lot of added features in the single-player game that weren't in ACII. It's effectively Assassin's Creed 2.9.
