Paramount Pictures confirm plans to create a motion-picture based on the forthcoming Playstation2/Xbox title from Midway…

Having recently confirmed the casting of David Duchovy, Powers Boothe and Marilyn Manson for the forthcoming Playstation2/Xbox Sci-Fi thriller, Area 51, Paramount Pictures today announced that it has secured the rights to create a film based on the game.

Initial information links only Christine Peters to the project, who previously assumed the role of Producer on Kate Hudson’s “How to Loose a Guy in 10 Days”. Peters will be collaborating with Midway and Inevitable Studios to create the film, which is described as an “action-packed thriller” – although whether Duchovny, Boothe or Marilyn Manson will assume their roles within the film remains unknown.

“'AREA 51' brings some of the most cutting-edge technology to the gaming world," says Peters, ("How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days"). "Bringing the game's riveting and suspenseful concepts to the big screen will be an exciting motion picture breakthrough."

President of Paramount Pictures and Vice Chairman of the Motion Picture Group, Donald De Line, couldn't agree more. "We are delighted to be working hand in hand with Midway Games to translate this innovative game into a provocative film. We look forward to bringing all the excitement gamers will feel playing 'AREA 51' to theatres everywhere."

The announcement also highlights the increasing relationship between Midway and Viacom, who own Paramount Pictures and were recently rumoured to be interested in an acquisition of the US publisher.
