Codemasters Online Gaming confirms that the guild-heavy MMO is now free to download...

Just ten months after it launched as a subscription-based MMO, Codemasters Online Gaming has today confirmed that Archlord is now free to download from the official website.

Codemasters previously announced that the game, which sees players vie to become the ultimate omnipotent deity in the gameworld (and win a full-size suit of armour) would be made subscription-free earlier in the year, and this recent decision suggests that Archlord hasn't accomplished the success COG had originally hoped for.

Confirming news of the decision, Ed Relf, Director of Marketing, Codemasters Online commented: "We are ecstatic to be in a position now to release ArchLord as an entirely FREE MMORPG and this marks a milestone in the games ongoing development. Since its release, ArchLord has grown consistently and we are excited to throw open the doors to players across N.America and Europe looking to play a premium 100% FREE MMORPG. Players are now only a download away from entering one of the most rich and rewarding PvP experiences in MMO gaming!"

Archlord isn't COG's only MMO; the Codemasters online subsidiary also has Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar, together with RFOnline.
