Amped: Freestyle Snowboarding - New Images News
More on this gameAmped offers a more realistic approach to snowboarding then EA BIG SSX Tricky, chill out and take a look at the review.
It’s a fair judgement to make that the games industry is filled with sporting titles such as Tony Hawk’s and other Extreme sports titles. So when Microsoft announced Amped it was interesting to see how the developers would make this one a cut above the rest.

Amped is one of the first Snowboarding titles to let you rip up the snow on real mountains packed with jumps and rails. The game actually allows you to roam around huge mountains with no limitations allowing you the complete freedom to do what you like. Unlike other games of this class, Amped is more than just finishing the track on time and pulling off enough stunts to beat the high score. Amped requires you to gain sponsors to increase you career level, perform fantastic moves and as usual ride the mountain in the quickest time.

As you start the championship mode the first thing you need to do is design your snowboarder, you can change every aspect from face, clothes, sex, board, shoes and many more attributes. However don’t expect a championship boarder straight away, it takes time and patience to build up your characters skills but eventually you’ll be on the way to stardom. As you begin you’ll start off with an easy mountain which requires you to perform simple air tricks and grinds, if you’re lucky enough you might just impress a sponsor by performing a wild stunt in front of a camera man. Once you catch a sponsor’s eye your next missions is to win them over to do this you need to ride the mountain again performing tricks and moves that the sponsors enjoy. If at the end of the race your sponsor is happy they will take you on and give you bucket loads of money.

As you race the world around you is living complete with crashing boarders, flying pros and roaming photographers. If you get too close to a photographer they might just shout out some verbal abuse. The mountains are also based on real resorts featuring: Utah’s Brighton, Vermont’s Stratton and California’s Snow Summit. Each of which are recreated with perfect snow conditions and jaw-dropping graphics. There is a total of 120 different runs packed with rails, kickers and half-pipes, each with six unique challenges, hidden areas and a rotating stream of spectators, for a different ride every time.

Up to 4 players can play in the multiplayer section of Amped, allowing you to prove to your friends who the greatest player is. You can ever throw snow balls and shout abuse to your opponents when waiting to race.

The graphics are very impressive; featuring fully bump-mapped terrains and well details characters the snow looks incredibly realistic and the shadows work well too. However at times the levels do become slightly tiresome and lack certain detail which makes other Xbox games such as Halo look fantastic. Sound on the other hand is an area that Amped excels in with over 150 new songs from core indie label, and the facility to use your own songs using the Xbox Hard Drive.

Amped is a very good attempt at competing in the Extreme sports genre, offering some fantastic visuals with new and original gameplay elements. If you’re a fan of Snowboarding them we would highly recommend this title its quick and easy to learn and once you start you’ll find it hard to give up.
