SEGA announces a sturdy release window for Alpha Protocol, although it's not until October...

Obsidian's next triple A RPG, Alpha Protocol, should arrive in stores this coming October according to a SEGA announcement this afternoon.

The last we'd heard from SEGA about Alpha Protocol's release was that it was en-route for a Q1 2009 release, although that was last summer (Obsidian was estimating a summer 2009 release on its forums a couple of months before that). Either way you look at it, that's a delay of a good few months for the title.

Interestingly, the PR blurb for the story of this espionage themed RPG starts, "The year is 2009..." Well, yes it is, SEGA. What more have you got for us...

Apparently, when a US missile takes out a commercial airliner over Eastern Europe, the world's governments are understandably miffed. Cue the American military's joker card, master spy Michael Thorton, to clear the US of any involvement and find those responsible.

We certainly liked what we saw of Alpha Protocol at the Leipzig Game Convention last year, so here's hoping this latest release window sticks and doesn't follow the path of SEGA's other RPG under development at Obsidian.

Sweet! This sounds cool. I hope there is more RPG than shooting.. I like shooting, but some games make non sensical use of it. Obsidian seems to nail RPGs pretty good, although the mechanics to some of their games have not been as polished, their games are good. If they get their technical side of things that had issue in the past, this could turn out realy good. I'll Be curious to see how well they pull this one off.
