SEGA states that the release of Alien: Colonial Marines may depend on the success of Aliens vs. Predator...
SEGA Europe's President, Mike Hayes has stated that the release of Gearbox's Aliens: Colonial Marines could follow on as long as 12 months after Aliens vs. Predator's scheduled launch in February, suggesting that the title may not emerge until 2011.
In even more worrying news for Gearbox's shooter, Hayes has even indicated that Colonial Marines' release could depend on the success of Rebellion's Aliens vs. Predator at retail.
"I think the detail of that [release date] is probably still too early," Hayes told G4TV regarding Colonial Marines' prospective launch. "What I would say is it's unlikely that we'd launch anything within six months [after Aliens vs. Predator], but probably nine months, eight to 12 months possibly. Though we literally are looking at that at the moment and a lot of is going to depend, as well, on how successful AvP is at the box [retail]."
"It's what level of 'well' does it do," Hayes continued. "Do we then determine when we want to bring the next one out and then, of course, determine what the third one in the series is likely to be."
The "third one" is a reference to SEGA's previously planned Aliens trilogy, which originally included the Gearbox and Rebellion titles mentioned above as well as the doomed Aliens RPG project at Obsidian, which was officially cancelled earlier this year.
While no replacement has been formally announced for Obsidian's Aliens RPG, Hayes apprently confirmed that SEGA is still committed to delivering a third instalment in the series with an, "Oh, absolutely," remark. We'll believe it when we see it.

This is BS - AvP is horrible and all the previous AvP games have been mediocre at best. I'm so mad about this right now. I thought the guy in the Gamestop store had lost his mind when he told me "Next Year". Alien and Aliens need a game of this calibur to bring it back strong. Pushed out over a year? Yeah right - we'll be lucky to ever see this game. I will not be purchasing another crappy AvP game.

I got a funny feeling that this may turn out just like the other aliens:colonial marines a no show! which will really piss me off along with other alien fans, dont get me wrong i love AVP, but would really like this game

Listen I really think they need to come out with this game first due to the fact of well what if we do not like AVP ok what then you are not going to put out Alien:colonial marines. I mean ths game is already done why don't you guys just send it out for us to see what it is like and then when you guys get finished with AVP since you guys are not even done making it we might get it if we like that alien game.

Well considering Aliens: Colonial Marines wont be out till 2010, it's an easy choice surely?

I just saw that this game was coming out when I was looking through an Xbox 360 magazine. I think I'm a little torn on which to save my money on, Aliens: Colonial Marines, or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2(By the way, that's coming out November tenth of this year!!!:)!!!)

I hope the rumours of SEGA pulling funding arent true - a dedicated Aliens game is much better then this AvP crap.
