SEGA reveals that its Aliens FPS under development at Gearbox is being delayed by at least a year...

As part of its announcement of a new AvP game today, SEGA has revealed that Aliens: Colonial Marines will be delayed by at least a year and won't ship until the first few months of 2010 at the earliest.

The press release announcing SEGA's new Aliens vs. Predator title, which is due for release early in 2010, also states that the title "will be the first to launch in series".

By series, SEGA is referring to the other two Aliens games in its portfolio (Gearbox Software's Aliens: Colonial Marines and Obsidian's Aliens RPG), which effectively pushes both titles back into a release window of 2010 at the earliest.

We spoke to SEGA Europe earlier today and a Spokesperson could confirm that this was the case.

Aliens: Colonial Marines was originally slated for release in late 2008 and was then pushed into a Q1 2009 window last summer, meaning that this latest change to its release date will cause a humongous delay of over a year.

Although Obsidian's Aliens RPG was originally projected for release in 2009, that estimate was made as part of the game's initial announcement over two years ago and the title suspiciously lacked any publicity during 2008, making its delay no big surprise.

What's also no big surprise is that Gearbox Software has managed to delay yet another game by such a huge margin. Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway, anyone?

This is BS - AvP is horrible and all the previous AvP games have been mediocre at best.  I'm so mad about this right now.  I thought the guy in the Gamestop store had lost his mind when he told me "Next Year".  Alien and Aliens need a game of this calibur to bring it back strong.  Pushed out over a year? Yeah right - we'll be lucky to ever see this game.  I will not be purchasing another crappy AvP game.

Listen I really think they need to come out with this game first due to the fact of well what if we do not like AVP ok what then you are not going to put out Alien:colonial marines. I mean ths game is already done why don't you guys just send it out for us to see what it is like and then when you guys get finished with AVP since you guys are not even done making it we might get it if we like that alien game.

Well considering Aliens: Colonial Marines wont be out till 2010, it's an easy choice surely?

I just saw that this game was coming out when I was looking through an Xbox 360 magazine. I think I'm a little torn on which to save my money on, Aliens: Colonial Marines, or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2(By the way, that's coming out November tenth of this year!!!:)!!!)

I hope the rumours of SEGA pulling funding arent true - a dedicated Aliens game is much better then this AvP crap.
