Yet another trawl through the USA's Patents and Trademarks Office reveals a potential candidate for the unknown title...

Towards the end of 2005, SEGA confirmed a development partnership with Totally Games, in a move mirrored by today's news involving Planet Moon Studios.

Although confirming that Totally Games would be resurrecting a SEGA franchise, the identity of the series continues to be a mystery. However TVG has today done a Sherlock, donned a deerstalker hat, and deduced what that title could very well be.

Knowing that Totally Games' background has focused in the past on creating flight titles, including the X-Wing series for Lucas Arts, there is only one candidate: Afterburner - but has SEGA renewed its trademark for the iconic arcade flight title?

Heading off to the US Patents and Trademark Office website, and making a search for "Afterburner" revealed that they hadn't. Instead, what the sneaky publisher had done was trademark "After Burner" (a space really does make a difference)...in July 2005, just a matter of months before the deal with Totally Games was announced.

OK so perhaps it's not exactly a ground-breaking revelation that will go down in history, but remember it's a logical stab in the dark. Representatives from SEGA understandably refused to comment.

We'll have more news shortly...

Nope, it's a resurrection of a classic Sega Arcade game. Was also re-made in the Sega Ages range released in Japan
