Conan Slips Into 2008 News
Funcom confirms a new release date for the PC/Xbox 360 MMO...
By Chris LeytonPosted: 10/08/2007
Originally scheduled for an October release, it seems as though fans of Robert E. Howard's Conan will have a little longer to wait with confirmation that the forthcoming PC/Xbox 360 MMO Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures has been pushed into 2008.
Already impressing with a list of innovations and neat touches in the MMO genre, Funcom cite the need to continue honing, polishing and improving the experience before its new date on March 25th 2008.
"We naturally regret that we have to push back 'Age of Conan'. However, after careful consideration, and analysis of recent Beta feedback, we believe that the new release date is in the best interest of the gamers, our company and our owners," said Trond Arne Aas, CEO of Funcom. "We are fully committed to delivering games with absolute qualities, and in the current MMO marketplace we know that only the best is good enough to truly succeed. With the new release date we have therefore given ourselves more time to meet and deliver on the massive expectations for the game. We are certain that our choice will ultimately pay off, and that all 'Age of Conan' players will get a special online experience."
"We are honored by the immense reception our game is constantly getting, with an astounding amount of positive press coverage, awards and magazine covers, but we still see that we need to polish some aspects of the game even further, especially when it comes to the entry barriers," said Gaute Godager, founder of Funcom and Producer / Director on 'Age of Conan'. "With the added development time we can now deliver something even more unique and powerful, something which is worthy of the incredible Conan legacy."

This is, hands down, the best MMORPG out there when it comes to gameplay, immersion, and mature content and players. No more irritating 13 year olds!

Check out the Funcom website. They shipped 700,000 copies to retail, but a recent press release maintains that over 400,000 have logged on and started playing since it released.

Erm...where did you get the information from in this article? Common knowledge is that the game sold over 700 000 copies (110 000 of those collectors editions) on the first day of release, meaning that it beat WoW's North American & European release sales by over 170 000 on the first day. It therefore does not pale in comparison to WoW's initial sales, but beat it by quite a margin...

Dang, this has been delayed so much that I almost forgot about it. Looks like they've improved on it, but it still needs work. I think that's why they moved the release back yet again.

this says the 360 version will release the same time as the pc version which is incorrect, if the pc version releases march 25th (which it will probably be pushed back again) then the 360 version will most likely come out around september.

It's nice to see that they stuck to the gritty dark world of R.E. Howard. They could have toned it down for children like so many other games. It's nice to see a PC game geared to an older generation.
