Developer Funcom is reducing the amount of Age of Conan's servers to almost a third of its original number...
To account for dwindling populations in Age of Conan's 49 servers, developer Funcom is reducing the number of the game's servers to nearly a third of its original total by merging them to only 18.
The first planned merger (of US servers Bloodspire and Hyperborea) took place last week, bringing the total down to 48. Funcom now plans to repeat the process across the board in the remaining US as well as European servers.
Although the game enjoyed impressive sales figures on launch and Funcom has previously touted an installed base of 400,000 players, this reduction in servers is a significant indication that Age of Conan has not reached the long-term online population that Funcom had expected.
The planned mergers will take place this week and Funcom is yet to announce a specific time and date for respective downtimes at this point, although the developer did note on Age of Conan's forums that it plans to merge the US and European servers in two separate operations.

This is, hands down, the best MMORPG out there when it comes to gameplay, immersion, and mature content and players. No more irritating 13 year olds!

Check out the Funcom website. They shipped 700,000 copies to retail, but a recent press release maintains that over 400,000 have logged on and started playing since it released.

Erm...where did you get the information from in this article? Common knowledge is that the game sold over 700 000 copies (110 000 of those collectors editions) on the first day of release, meaning that it beat WoW's North American & European release sales by over 170 000 on the first day. It therefore does not pale in comparison to WoW's initial sales, but beat it by quite a margin...

Dang, this has been delayed so much that I almost forgot about it. Looks like they've improved on it, but it still needs work. I think that's why they moved the release back yet again.

this says the 360 version will release the same time as the pc version which is incorrect, if the pc version releases march 25th (which it will probably be pushed back again) then the 360 version will most likely come out around september.

It's nice to see that they stuck to the gritty dark world of R.E. Howard. They could have toned it down for children like so many other games. It's nice to see a PC game geared to an older generation.
