Another game FROM the Actua series, this time tennis is the sport that gets the treatment, in my mind no tennis game will ever top the SNES classic Super Tennis.

Does Actua Tennis get close, the simple word is no.
Before you start to play every thing seems fine, you have a large selection of real life players, numerous courts and more options than, well a fair few anyway. But when you get into the game you see that the graphics are jerky, blocky and on top of that they are not particularly detailed. Commentary, although by Barry Davis, Sue Barker and Pat Cash, is poor and in some cases just stupid.
Things get worse when you start to play, the device used to determine serves is pointless and it is hard to decide where to put your serve. When you start to get into the game you notice odd things, like the ball being returned when it is no where near hitting the racquet. Players missing the ball then hitting when it is behind them, and the classic ball going through the player. Oh and there are no ball boys/girls, even Super Tennis had them.
My friends and I enjoyed this game, but only because it was funny watching players play shots that would defy the laws of physics, and because it was free. If you want to spend money on a tennis game then in all honesty you should buy a SNES with a copy of Super Tennis, it is probably going to be cheaper and you will have more fun. Even if you are a die hard tennis fan, don’t buy this game, if you do you will regret it, buy Super Tennis, end of story.
